Painting Open Studio

Bring any materials that you already have. If you are unsure of what to buy, don’t but anything. Just come to class. I will cover all materials.

CANVASES
or some thing similar to paint on. No smaller than 18 x 24

PAINTS:

  • Windsor Newton Finity Permanent Rose -- pigment code      PV19

  • Windsor Newton Finity Cadmium yellow light --  pigment code
          PY35

  • Pthalo Blue (any brand) -- pigment code PB15 if the label says

  • red or green shade – either one is fine.

When buying Windsor Newton, make sure to get the Finity brand and not the Galleria brand, There is a huge difference. If you can not find these brands, match the pigment codes. Ask for assistance at the store. ANY BRAND OF PAINT WILL DO
  • Zinc white or Titanium white

  • OPTIONAL COLORS (do not need for 1st class)

  • Alizarin Crimson

  • Unbleached Titanium

  • Dioxide Purple

  • Hookers green or Sap green

  • Paynes Gray

  • Yellow Ochre or Juana Yellow

  • Cadmium Red Med

  • Black

  • Other blues such as French ultramarine / colbalt /cerulean

  • Any other color that catches your eye

  • Just for fun try metallic colors

 When buying color try to buy the purest colors. You will get a far greater mixing range

BRUSHES (each company has their own # system so if you have question on the size let me know the first class.

  • Acrylic Bristle  Flat / Round #4 and #6 a small to med and large

  • Acrylic Flat & Round synthetic # 6 and 12 a small to med and large

  • Watercolor brush (a soft brush) #8

  • Liner brush (a long thin brush)

OTHER ITEMS

  • Disposable palate. Small round plastic palate with 8 or more cups

  • Small spray bottle to mist paints with. Container for water

  • Paper towels or rags. Foil or saran wrap to cover paints on the way home

  • Gloss medium and varnish make sure to get the liquid and not the gel

  • Palette knife.

  • Canvas or panels or board no smaller than 18 x 24

  • Sketch book/ journal

  • Pencil & eraser

  • A few binder clips / tape /2 sheet protectors
