Beginning Acrylic Painting Supply List

-Brushes: An assortment of soft and stiff brushes from flats,
rounds, and filberts in a range of sizes from small to large. 1
gesso or larger house painting brush.
-Primed & stretched canvases or canvas boards; sizes determined by
how large you can carry in your car: 11”x 14”, 16” x 20” or 18” x
24” or larger. 4 to 5 canvases should be enough for this course.
-Palette: disposable palettes such as foam plates and paper palettes
-Palette knife: at least one flexible pointed chisel-shaped metal
knife
-Paper towels
-1 container for water
-1 small liquid or bar soap
-1 large carry-all for your wet paintings and a tool box for your
supplies
-1 small container of Light Molding Paste
-1 small bottle of Acrylic Glazing Liquid; Satin
-1 small sketchpad and drawing pencil
-Paint: the names of paints are all different, but here is a
recommended list with comparative names for acrylic paints. The more
colors you bring; the easier to mix the colors you need. Preferred
brands are Golden and Liquitex.
Pure Hues:
Cadmium Red Medium or Napthol Red Medium
Cadmium Red Light or Napthol Red Light
Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Magenta
Lemon Yellow or Hansa Yellow Light
Cadmium Yellow Medium and Deep or Hansa Yellow Medium and Deep
French Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt or Cerulean Blue
Prussian Blue or Phthalo Blue (green shade)
Viridian or Phthalo Green (blue shade)
Dioxazine Violet
Titanium White is the brightest. Unbleached Titanium is a good light
beige color.
Mars Black or any other name of black is fine
Additional Earth Colors are optional: Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre,
Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Chromium Green
