Since I moved to Georgia eleven years
ago, I’ve grown to love and respect the unique beauty of the weather
and landscape. I find myself completely captivated by the ever –
changing skies, the intense variety of green colors in the trees and
rivers and the vibrant earth and bountiful flowers. Exploring
nature has greatly inspired the content of my artwork. I use both
photography and abstraction to develop my particular painting style.

My exploration of space, color and
light has manifested in a series of abstract paintings. Each
painting contains a mystery or abstraction of real life forms to be
viewed as a metaphor for natural elements and forces, such as water,
earth, wind, fire and sky. Each painting also conveys a particular
emotion or sensation created by the color harmony.
Through the media of acrylic, I am
attempting to create a jewel effect transparency of color through a
layering technique. The process of applying thin veils of pigment
and mediums are juxtaposed with heavy impasto–like textures. I like
to leave some of the earliest levels of colors evident somewhere in
the painting in order for the viewer to witness the process of
creativity or decisions I’ve made along the way. Working on canvas
allows flexibility of size and allows for a range of expression from
intimacy to bravado. The colors and shapes work together to suggest
the essence of a moment captured in time. The compositions evoke a
tension between open and closed space. Abstractions of landscape,
figures and architectural forms and sometimes simply light itself
are suggested to the viewer. The focal points of light have a deep
spiritual significance to me. They act like areas of peace and
tranquility within the active movement of color and shapes. My hope
is that the viewer will also sense a feeling of beauty, rejuvenation
and peace in viewing my work.
