Supply List

Paper: Please bring 2-3 sheets of 140 lb Arches or Fabriano Cold Press Watercolor Paper, we’ll be dividing those sheets up to do various exercises

Brushes: Bring the watercolor brushes you typically use. Bring at least 1 round brush and a one inch flat brush.

Paints: For this course, Artist’s grade watercolor are definitely preferable over student grad( student grade contains more binder and can be less vibrant, more chalky opaque, so that are less suitable for an in depth study of color characteristics). Winsor & Newton, Sennelier and Holbein are all excellent brands to work with. If up until now you’ve only used student grade, you can buy smaller tubes to start out with and just get the minimal palette as indicated by the * :

We will be doing exercises with the following colors- so bring whatever you have and you may want to fill in a few gaps-this is a pretty standard watercolorists palette.- it is not essential to get every single one, but please try to bring at least those in bold with the asterisk next to them:

-Ultramarine Blue*( if a shade is noted on the package- go for red shade rather than green)

-Cobalt Blue*

-Cerulean Blue

-Pthalo Blue*( also known as Winsor Blue)

-Pthalo Green* (also known as Winsor Green)

-Viridian(green)

-Sap Green

-Winsor or Dioxizine violet

-Cobalt violet

-Alizarin Crimson*

-Permanent Rose

-Cadmium Red*

-Raw Sienna*

-Burnt Sienna*

-Raw Umber

-Quinacridone Gold

-Aureolin(yellow)*

-Indian Yellow*( or New Gamboge)

-Cadmium Yellow*

Misc.: Bring a #2 pencil, sharpener, 2 plastic containers for water, paper towels, tissues, a 12 inch ruler (or something comparable), masking tape, small bottle black India ink
